Tanya Tucker was the last of three children and was raised, mainly, in Willcox, Arizona, but she was born in Seminole, Texas. Throughout her younger years, Tanya and her family moved around often because of her father’s job and his desire to find more and better work. However, even after moving to Utah, her father had such faith in his daughters’ ability that once the fair in Phoenix, Arizona rolled around, he drove them all to the fair office where Tanya sang for the people who were in charge of scheduling entertainment at the fair and eventually went on to sing in the fair itself with Judy Lynn.

After the fair, when Tanya was around eleven, she and her family moved to Las Vegas where she performed on a more regular basis and was eventually signed by Billy Sherrill of ABC. Working with Columbia Records, Tucker recorded a single that was released in 1972 (Delta Dawn) and it was an instant hit that soared to the number six spot. In the next year she recorded two number one singles on top of other top ten songs.

Through the intervening years, Tanya Tucker was able to satiate her fan base and was able to continue her musical career through the transition of teen idol to adult star. However, life wasn’t without its challenges as throughout the ’80′s she battled with drug and alcohol addictions. In the 90′s she began to sing more and became more popular and also began a family. Even today her music career continues and, while she may not have number one hits anymore, she is still one of the most popular and great female country artists.
